Building A Wood Shed

Building a shed is one easy way to increase the amount of storage space available to you without spending too much time or money. If you're aiming to increase your property value by building a wood shed, there are some other considerations you'll need to be aware of.

The shed design you choose needs to be both durable enough to withstand extreme weather, but also blend in with the other structures on your property. Because of this, you'll need to plan carefully before you begin construction of your new shed.

Not all wood shed kits have all the required materials, however. Most of them are bare-bones, containing only basic hardware and information about other required tools and materials. Also, be aware that you'll probably need to measure and cut the wood before you start building. That said, they do sell shed kits that include everything you need to get started right away. Even the wood will be pre-measured, eliminating the tedium of measuring each piece.

The first and most obvious step is to select a site for the building. You need to make sure the ground is flat, and that you've laid a strong foundation to ensure the safety of the shed's contents. Before starting, draft a blueprint with all of the pertinent measurements so you can breeze through construction. When selecting the wood, keep the weather conditions in your region in mind, since different wood will be necessary for very sunny and very rainy areas. Build your pair of side walls, followed by the rear and finally the front wall sections. Don't forget to allocate space for the door and window openings. Secure the exterior siding sheets to the outer wall using nails.

Search for information in the local building codes to help determine the kind of foundation required. To minimize hassle, it's recommended that you use fast-setting cement, which can be easily found at most DIY stores. If you follow this recommendation, the contents of your shed will almost certainly stay dry and clean.

Most of the time, these shed kits come with wood that isn't painted or stained. Using durable, high quality paint will cut down on required maintenance. This will increase the initial outlay, but it will pay for itself in time. In case you're not interested in doing the painting, you could pay someone else.

If what you really want is a garage, but you're short on cash, one way to cut costs is to build a wood shed using these easy-to-follow plans. You'll not only save quite a bit of money, but also feel a sense of accomplishment at having done the work yourself.
